Today the Ukrainian government accused Hungarian authorities of detaining seven Ukrainian citizens in Budapest.

According to Kyiv, the men are employees of the Ukrainian state owned bank Oschadbank and were traveling in two armored bank vehicles transporting cash between Austria and Ukraine as part of routine transfers between state banks. Ukrainian officials claim Hungarian authorities stopped the vehicles, detained the seven employees, and seized the funds they were carrying. Kyiv says it currently has no contact with the detained individuals.

Ukraine has sent a diplomatic note to Hungary demanding their immediate release and says it will raise the issue with the European Union.

Hungarian authorities have not yet publicly provided a detailed explanation for the detention.
